Kalam Fellowship for Women Pursuing Science PhD: UGC

The new fellowship will award any girl student selected under the scheme INR 12,400 per month during the first two years and INR 15,500 per month during the third and fourth year

The UGC empowered committee on Basic Scientific Research headed by Anil D Sahasrabudhe has decided that the University Grants Commission (UGC) will launch the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Single Girl Child Fellowship to pursue PhDs in the Sciences.

The new fellowship will be on par with the Swami Vivekananda Single Girl Child Fellowship for Research in Social Sciences and award any girl student selected under the scheme INR 12,400 per month during the first two years and INR 15,500 per month during the third and fourth year.

The scheme can only be used by a single girl child in a family, who had taken admission in regular full time PhD programme in any recognised university or institute.The maximum age limit will be 40 years for general and 45 year for reserved category like SC, ST, OBC and the physically challenged. The fellowship will be given to a maximum of 300 students.
