Pune college accused of reducing Professors’ salaries for NAAC visit

The professors from the city college have alleged that college management stated that nearly 50 per cent of three month’s salary would be deducted to cover the expenses

Professors of a city college have alleged that their pay was cut to meet the expenses incurred by visits of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) to the college. The authorities at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) have been informed of this development. SPPU vice-chancellor Wasudeo Gade stated to a daily “I have received information that a college on outskirts of Pune indulged in such activities. It is completely illegal and no college can pass on the expenses incurred during any inspections, including NAAC, to professors. We have constituted an inquiry and asked for report at the earliest.”

During NAAC visits colleges might have to spend on the visiting team’s food, travel and stay expenses. SPPU sources have stated that the professors from the college have complained that instructions from college management stated that nearly 50 per cent of three month’s salary would be deducted to cover the expenses. Gade added “There is no such rule anywhere and college managements are supposed to bear the expenses on their own. If this incident has occurred, we will take strict action as we cannot allow exploitation of teaching staff.”
