All universities to observe Freedom Fortnight: UGC

UGC has also listed activities that the institutions should organise as part of the celebrations

 
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed all universities and their constituent colleges to observe “Freedom Fortnight” from 9 August 2016 to 23 August 2016. Speaking on the issue UGC Secretary Jaspal Sandhu stated, "India will enter the 70th year of independence on August 15. The period between August 9 and 23 will be declared 'Azadi 70, Yaad Karo Kurbani' or freedom fortnight. Students all over the country should celebrate this in an appropriate manner."
 
In a letter sent to all the universities UGC listed activities that the institutions should organise during the freedom fortnight. The list calls for the mass singing of national anthem at 11 am on 23 August 2016. UGC has also asked the institutions to submit a report (which should include photographs and videos) on the activities organised during the celebrations.
