The PhD programmes for non technical subjects which had been discontinued earlier will now be offered again
As per a new circular issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and 14 other government run open universities will soon be offering PhD programmes in non technical subjects.
Minster of Human Resource Development Prakash Javadekar stated that, “PhDs have been allowed in subjects like humanities, social sciences.” He added that the PhD programmes will come under the purview of the University Grants Commission Regulations 2016.
An IGNOU official stated that PhD programmes were offered by the Open University earlier but had been discontinued. The programmes will now be offered again.
