With the University grants Commission clearing a proposal for the inclusion of Yoga in the list of subjects for the National Eligibility Test (NET), student will now be able to opt for Yoga as a subject for NET in 2017.
Aspirants with a graduation or post graduation degree in Yoga will now be able to appear for the exam and become eligible for appointment to the post of yoga teachers in colleges and universities.
A government panel headed by H R Nagendra, Vice Chancellor, Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana, Bengaluru had earlier suggested that Yoga be included in the subjects for NET. Presently as many as 52 institutions across the country offer programmes on Yoga, with 16 institutions offering MA programmes on the subject. Several government universities are also planning to introduce programmes on the subject.
