Odisha to set up first Women's University

The colleges for women that are functioning under the administration of Utkal University will be considered under the new Women's University

The Odisha Government's proposal has been accepted by the Rashtriya Ucchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) in regard to give Rama Devi Women's College, a university status as told by the Odisha's higher education minister Pradeep Panigrahi. 

"The Rashtriya Ucchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) which is sponsored by the Central government has accepted Odisha government's proposal regarding this", said Panigrahi adding that Rama Devi Women College would be the first women's university in the state.

Pradeep Panigrahi also said that the RUSA has agreed to give a Cluster University status to Khalikote College in Berhampur as well, which is currently an autonomous College. All the colleges that are located nearby the Khallikote College would be considered under the cluster university's horizon. 

For the infrastructural development of these two universities the Center would be releasing a lump sum of Rs 55 crore for each of the universities in the next three years under RUSA. The state government has also made the decision to introduce more courses in these new universities.
