Prof RC Sobti appointed VC of Ambedkar varsity

HRD appointed Padma Shri Prof RC Sobti as the new Vice Chancellor of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow.

Ministry of Human Resource and Development (HRD) has appointed Padma Shri Prof RC Sobtia as the new vice-chancellor of Babasahed Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow. Prof Sobtia, former V-C of Panjab University, will replace Prof B Hanumaiah.
He has been the VC of Panjab University for the past six years and was elected the general president of Indian Science Congress Association for the 101{+s}{+t} session to be held in 2013-14. He is a member executive of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and the chairman of the governing body of National Council of Science Museums. Prof Sobtia was appointed as the VC of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh in February 2009 but he didnt join.
Prof Sobtia, a Doctorate in Science (DSc) from Himachal Pradesh University, has received more than two dozen awards and 16 fellowships. He has supervised 44 PhDs and is currently working on eight others. He has 25 books published. Prof Hanumaiah's term ended on June 17, 2012. He was given extension by MHRD till the appointment of a new VC.
