An R&D centre that will facilitate protection of the national heritage will be set up byIndian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar. IIT-GN will collaborate with institutes likePune's Deccan College, Chennai-based Sharma Centre for Heritage Education and MS University to eventually offera national facility for conducting cutting edge research in the area.The collaboration would start in the next few months.
Talking to media, IIT-GN Director Prof Sudhir Jain said, "It is very important to protect our past. A small initiative has been taken to establish an R&D centre on archaeology in the institute, in this direction. We shall be working in coordination with other varsities and institutes."The Director informed that IIT-GN has also proposed to start offering few post doctoral fellowships to archaeologists and commence a minor programme on Archaeology from the next academic session, to revive archaeological practices by providing a technological interface
The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar was founded in the year 2008. It is currently located in Chandkheda. IITGN is in the process of building its permanent campus in Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat. Despite operating from a temporary campus at the Vishwakarma Government Engineering College, Chandkheda, IITGN has excellent facilities in terms of classrooms, laboratory spaces, faculty offices, etc.
