12 November 2011

A total of 10 scholarships per year will be provided to SAARC member states for post-graduate and doctoral

Around 100 scholars of the New Delhi-based South Asian University (SAU) will get scholarship for masters and doctoral research. Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh announced that it was decided to increase SAARC Silver Jubilee Scholarships from 50 to 100, of which 75 would be for masters and 25 for doctoral research.
The South Asian University, New Delhi is an International University sponsored by the eight Member States of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). These eight countries include Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Dr Singh said, "We will provide a total of 10 scholarships per year to SAARC member states for post-graduate and doctoral studies in forestry courses at the Forest Research Institute, Dehradun." He added that scholarships will help students to bear their burden during their studies.
Substantial scholarships are on offer, both from the University and the Government of India.  Work-earn programmes also allow students to offset some of their cost of living. Students at SAU are to be drawn from all eight SAARC nations, in proportion to their population, but with a minimum of 4% for each country and not more than 50% for the host India.
