According to the Minister of State for Human Resource Development, D. Purandeswari, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has identified 21 fake universities and institutions functioning in different parts of the country in contravention of the UGC Act, 1956. Similarly, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has also identified 350 unapproved institutions running technical and management courses in violation of its regulations.
Out of the 21 institutions violating the UGC Act, 8 are in Uttar Pradesh, 6 in Delhi and one each in Bihar, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
Also, of the 350 institutions that are unidentified by the AICTE, 75 each are in Delhi and Maharashtra, 52 in Andhra Pradesh, 34 in West Bengal, 30 in Uttar Pradesh, 27 in Karnataka, 17 in Haryana, 14 in Tamil Nadu, 9 in Chandigarh, 4 in Gujarat, 3 in Punjab, 2 each in Bihar, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Goa, and one each in Uttarkhand and Kerala.
The names of all these universities have been put in the list maintained by the UGC and AICTE respectively. The information has also been uploaded on their respective websites.
The State and UT Governments have also been requested to take necessary action under the Indian Penal Code against these institutions. A proposal for the prohibition of unfair practices in higher educational institutions has also been introduced in the Parliament.

I strongly reommend that before taking admission in any of the college/university/institute the parents and students both should verify the fact that whether the colleg/institue is fake or approved then and then only students/parents should take admission in any of the institute.
