Some state governments had urged council not to grant permission for new technical institutions

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is planning to act against sub-standard technical institutions across the country. It has decided to cancel affiliation of those institutions which are not maintaining standards framed by the council.
The Chairman of AICTE- SS Mantha said, “The filed of technical education offers a lot of scope and we always encourage colleges that have potential to deliver quality education. At the same time, we are very cautious about the mushrooming of sub-standard colleges.”
It may be mentioned here that some state governments had urged council not to grant permission for new technical institutions as thousands of seats were already lying vacant in the existing colleges and institutes.
Replying to this, Mantha said that the AICTE was planning to cancel affiliations of institutions which were unable to maintain academic standards.
It may be mentioned here that AICTE is responsible for proper planning and coordinated development of the technical education and management education system in the country. The AICTE accredits postgraduate and graduate programs under specific categories at Indian institutions as per its charter.
