AICTE Revises Provisions For Its PGDM Courses

The duration of all approved PGDM courses shall not be less than 24 months


The All Indian Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has recently announced a few changes in its provisions for all its approved PGDM courses.  This is aimed at ensuring maximum transparency and enhancing the decision making process.

These provisions in terms of regulations have been announced following the Council meeting on November 24, 2010. The council has decided that all post graduate courses in management have to be of a minimum duration of 24 months.

Also, students shall get admission into the approved PGDM courses only after taking a common entrance test like CAT/ MAT or an examination conducted by the competent authority of the respective state governments.

The provisions state that the academic year shall be from June 1 to May 31 of every year and that the admission to PGDM, PGDM (Executive) and PGCM shall commence only after March 31 of the academic year.

Furthermore, the Council shall issue the model curriculum or syllabus for all the above mentioned courses. The Fee Fixation Committee of the respective state governments will be entitled to approve the fees to be charged for all these programs.

AICTE rules for PGDM
The revised instructions will result in indirect control of state authorities on institutions conducting PGDM courses.The centralised admission process will also indicate that teh candidates will ahve to restrict to the state and not have common plateform for admission. These instructions defeat the very purpose pf PGDM courses.

Restictions on admission procedure & Fee structure can make the institutions to compromise on quality of education to provide like what is happening in the MBA programmes of university affiliated colleges.
