Behar was instrumental in the success of Wipro Infrastructure Engineering division and heads the Azim Premji Foundation


Azim Premji, Chairman of Wipro, and Chancellor of the newly set up Azim Premji University, announced the appointment of Anurag Behar, Former Wipro Executive as the Vice Chancellor of the university.

Behar played a key role in Wipro Infrastructure Engineering division's remarkable growth and heads the Azim Premji Foundation, a non-profit organisation launched by Premji to contribute towards a just, equitable, humane and sustainable society.

"Behar was instrumental in making the engineering division number one in high precision hydraulic cylinders, as the business grew to $300 million in 2010 from $30 million in 2006," Premji said.

The Bangalore-based university is being set up with a view to educate and develop professionals of high calibre with commitment to social causes.

The university will offer post graduation courses (MA) in education and development and masters in teacher education programmes from its new academic year beginning July. It will provide placement support for careers in government, private sector, non-government organisations and multi-lateral agencies.

This is an initiative in new direction. As outlines of its activities are delineated , we can understand the significance of development initiatives. I strongly suggest that creativity and innovation management should form part of their syllabus. Congratulations to Mr. Anurag Behar who has got the fortune of spearheading such a dream institution.
