The recommendation has been sent to the Chancellor-cum-Governor MK Narayanan to take action against the VC

Taking a serious note on allegations against the vice chancellor of West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT)- Sabyasachi Sengupta, the state higher education department has recommended to sack him.
Department has recommended for Sengupta’s sacking after different probe committees found him of guilty of financial irregularities, favouritism and harassment of teachers and students.
The recommendation attached with necessary papers has been sent to the Chancellor-cum-Governor MK Narayanan to take action against the vice chancellor. A senior officer  infromed that the department had formed four probe committees to look into various allegations against the VC.
He pointed out that the Higher Education advisory committee under the leadership of Abhirup Sarkar and the Higher Education council led by Sugata Marjit followed by a Government auditor probed into the matter. Finally, the higher education department also conducted an independent inquiry. All the inquiries found the allegations against the VC true.
At a recent convocation of the WBUT, Narayanan had clearly said, “If some are found guilty, we will have to see what can be done about them...on the basis of the new ordinance. Sengupta, however, said he was being made a political victim. He said, “I am being victimised since I did not allow admission of a girl despite requests from the higher education department.”
