Aliah University of West Bengal, which was set up in 2007 to promote higher education among minorities, is likely to match the global standards of academic excellence.
Soon after laying the foundation stone of a new campus in Rajarhat area on a sprawling 12 acre land, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had announced to provide total cooperation from the State government to make the university a globally known entity. The State government has already allocated Rs 120 crore for development if campus and other facilities.
The vice chancellor of University- Syed Samsul Alam said that a comprehensive plan to revamp the standards of teaching and its infrastructure would be sent to the State government for its necessary approval and grants.
Presently, the university is functioning from a temporary campus in Haji Mohammad Mohsin Square area of Kolkata. The new campus is located about 17 km far from the existing campus. Apart from integrated courses on theology and professional studies, the university is now planning to strengthen its technical faculty by bringing in qualitative improvement in infrastructure and teaching staff.
