Bharath University Designs India’s First Humanoid Robot
10 February 2011

The first humanoid robot in India has several unique features and will be used for research

A team of 12 students of Bharath University bagged their debut award - Best Performance for Innovation Award at Spring Innovations held in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, for creating a Humanoid Robot under the guidance of Robo.in, robotics training provider.

The robot is 58 centimetres long and weighs 4.3 kilograms. It has 25 degrees of freedom. The students of the university manipulated the touch sensors on the leg of the robot, so that it could recognise the obstacles on its path. They also used two cameras as the robot’s eyes for face recognition. Thus, the robot was able to identify people based on the presets given.

The robot also has three tactile sensors on its head, which are user-defined and customized accordingly. The motors in its joints enable a 360-degree movement. It can also be programmed to grip or lift light-weighted objects lying in its path. It can identify its master and follow his instructions.

The robot can be used in many research activities. Bharath University, in collaboration with Robo.in, will work further on the robot for advanced researches.

Congratulating the students, Mr J. Lakshmi Narayanan, Chancellor of Bharath University, said, “Robotics has been an interesting field of research and needs creative abilities and technical knowledge. We are proud that our students were able to design challenging robots and presented them at the international level.”

On the occasion, Dr K. P. Thooyamani, Vice Chancellor of Bharath University, said, “We always encourage and support aspiring students to indulge in research activities. Our students have won many honours in the field of robotics in the recent past. In a move to train more students, we are setting up a robotics research lab in Bharath University.”

Mr. Jaishankar Bharatharaj, Founder of Robo.in, said, “Robo.in has always been in search of young innovative minds to engage in the field of robotics. We train and engage students in the field of Robotics to design humanoid robots. We have participated in many Robotic competitions representing India and winning honours. We are proud that we have built one of first humanoid robots in India.”

1stClassFraud by BharathUniversity & its Students. Recently, they got wide media coverage (http://goo.gl/2DLyq) as if they've developed India's 1st HumanoidRobot. These shitbricks bought it for $15,000 from AldebaranRobotics (http://goo.gl/6R61N) din even make a change. Everything related 2 the humanoid they purchased is open source & ths sonofab's gave pose 2 photos & news channels & lied lk maanam ketta kooo's. :X and, the biggest asslikindogs are the females in the team.
