The University Grants Commission (UGC) has awarded Banaras Hindu University, University of Mysore and Karnatak University with the status of ‘Universities with Potential for Excellence’ (UPE). Commission has also felicitated trio universities with a grant of Rs 50 crore.
The Vice chancellor of BHU- Lalji Singh said, the university will also get Rs 12 crore for establishing stem cell, bone marrow transplant facility at its Sir Sunder Lal Hospital.
According to reports, around three dozen universities had submitted their proposals for the UPE status and 10 out of them were shortlisted.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) had introduced a scheme called “University with Potential for Excellence” (UPE) to encourage selected Universities to reach world-class standards in their chosen domain(s) by providing additional funds to them under the Scheme.
