Bihar Appoints New Director of Higher Education, J.P. Singh Removed
14 June 2011

Sita Ram Singh, Principal of B.D. College, took over from J.P. Singh who was also a sociology teacher at Patna University

The Bihar Government removed controversial author J.P Singh from the post of Director of Higher Education and appointed Sita Ram Singh, Principal of B.D. College, in his place.

J.P. Singh’s book “Adhunik Bharat Mein Samajik Parivartan”, which talked about the social changes in the country, was criticised strongly because he had described Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, the greatest Muslim reformer and statesman of the 19th century, and Dr Allama Iqbal, a renowned poet and philosopher of Islam, as communal and separatist leaders of the Muslim community. He had also made an inquiry against some officials of a few universities in Bihar.

He joined as director one and a half years back.

The government did not specify the exact cause of his removal from the post but sources say that the Muslim community had been demanding his removal since long. The community held a rally, raised the issue in the assembly house and approached the governor to seek his intervention on the matter. It also requested a ban on his book.
