In a move to make the education system more transparent, the University of Calcutta has decided to offer the photo copies of the answer scripts of all the examinations to its students. Students appearing in undergraduate and postgraduate examinations can have these answer scripts at the cost of Rs 500. To begin with, students appearing in this year’s part Ist examination of the graduation can apply for their answer scripts in the stipulated format.

The Pro-Vice Chancellor of Calcutta University, Dhrubajyoti Chattopadhyay said, “As per the Supreme Court order, the university is bound to show answer scripts to all its students appealing under the RTI.”

Students need to apply through their respective colleges. The institutions will have to forward the application to the university. While the undergraduate students would approach their colleges, postgraduate students will have to approach the head of the department to avail the facility when their result is published.

It may be noted that there are as many as 161 colleges under the university and about 4 lakh students appears in various examinations every year. The main concern for Calcutta University is how the varsity will store such a huge number of answer scripts so that it can be produced as and when the students demand.
