Cornell Varsity wins bid to open campus in NY

IIT- Bombay and Noida based Amity University from India were also in race.


Cornell University has won a competition set up by the New York city to build facility for job-spinning engineering research. Cornell, based in Ithaca, New York, will get a gift of $350 million for the project.
The project could involve more than 2 million square feet for more than 2,000 students. The first 150,000-square-foot building would generate as much power as it would use.
Seven proposals to build an engineering and technology campus in the City were submitted by universities around the world. IIT- Bombay and Noida based Amity University from India were also in race.
Columbia University, New York University, Carnegie Mellon University and Rockefeller University had also entered into race. But finally the bid was won by Cornell University. Now, Cornell will get free land and as much as $100 million for the improvement of infrastructure.
