Five Indian students get Rhodes Scholarship

The winners were selected among 830 applicants endorsed by 299 different colleges and Universities.


Five Indian students have been chosen for the prestigious Rhodes scholarship for the year 2012. Apart from them, five Indian-Americans and a Tibetan student are also among those 83 selected for the prestigious Scholarship.
The students selected from India are: Vrinda Bhandari from the National Law School of India University, Bangalore; Akul Dayal from IIT New Delhi; Nikita Kaushal from the University of Pune; Amit Kumar from IIT Roorkee; and Sujit Thomas from St. Stephen's College, University of Delhi.
Besides this, the Indian-American students selected for the scholarship are Ishan Nath, Aysha Bagchi, Nabeel Gillani, Anand Habib, Mohit Agrawal. While, Tenzin Seldon is a Tibetan student, who has been chosen for the scholarship.
The awardees will get all expenses for two or three years of study at the prestigious Oxford University. The winners were selected among 830 applicants endorsed by 299 different colleges and Universities. The selected students will get an entry in Oxford next year.
The Rhodes Scholarship, named after Cecil Rhodes, is an international postgraduate award for study at the University of Oxford. It was the first large-scale programme of international scholarships and is widely considered the "world's most prestigious scholarship".
