Government plans to link academic institutions

It will felicitate more than 20 million students and learners of various universities, colleges and polytechnics


Union Government is working on a draft to bring all the Universities, Polytechnics and Higher Education Institutes across the country under one roof. Union Cabinet has approved the proposal to connect 572 universities, 25,000 colleges and 2,000 polytechnics as part of its mission to promote information technology.
According to reports, a study is being carried out to connect all Colleges and Polytechnics through optical fibre under National Knowledge Network (NKN). The estimated cost for providing connectivity to 2000 polytechnics will be around Rs.14 crore per year.
It will promote sharing of innovative ides among intuitions and foster e-learning programmes. Idea behind this initiative is to ensure standard e-content in the universities and colleges across the country.
