A case of harassment to a junior student came into light in renowned Presidency University. The victim claimed that three seniors forced him to join students’ wing of communist party and also threatened of dare consequences, if he refused to follow their words.
According to reports, Sajan Dewan, a boarder of the Hindu Hostel, alleged that his seniors were forcing him to join the Students Federation of India (SFI), the students wing of the Communist Party of India-Marxist. Fed up with the regular "mental torture", Sajan also attempted to slit his wrists.
At last, he reported the matter with local police. Taking the matter seriously, police have lodged complaint against seniors and asked University administration to look into the matter. The vice chancellor of the University, Malabika Sarkar has asked the registrar to inquire into the incident.
Kolkata based Presidency University, formerly Hindu College and Presidency College, is a unitary, state aided university. It is one of the premier institutes of learning of liberal arts and sciences in India. In 2010, the college was upgraded to university status and ranked 3rd in India.
