Haryana to spend Rs 100 cr on Computer Education in Colleges

The initiative will help nearly 100,000 students studying Arts, Commerce and Science in the state’s government colleges


In a bid to popularise IT education in the state, Haryana government’s information technology department will spend Rs 100 cr on opening specialised computer laboratories, equipped will latest technologies and software, in its government colleges.

Besides, over 200 trained faculty members will be hired to impart computer education to college students in these laboratories.

“Government colleges are lagging behind in computer education as compared to private institutions. The students had to go out at private computer institutes that charged hefty fees from them. Therefore, we have decided to open computer laboratories in all government colleges of the state,” a senior official of information technology department said.

“Students will be taught job-oriented short-term and long-term courses and assistance will be provided for job placements in leading IT companies. We are also planning to tie up with IT giants like Wipro or Infosys to add quality to our education system,” stated the official.

This initiative will help nearly 100,000 students, who are studying Arts, Commerce and Science streams in state’s government colleges.

“We will also hire 200 computer faculty to teach in these labs. Their number will be increased gradually,” the official added.
