HRD asks IIM-Indore to Mentor New Campus at Udaipur
07 April 2011

The Union Ministry for Human Resource Development has appointed IIM-Indore in place of Ahmedabad for the mentoring programme

The Union Ministry for Human Resource Development has dropped the Indian Institute of Management at Ahmedabad (IIM-A) from its new mentoring programme because of its superior attitude towards training India’s tenth IIM at Udaipur, Rajasthan. The institute will now be mentored by IIM-Indore.

According to sources in the ministry, IIM-A had decided to mentor the institute only after it appointed a director and recruited its faculty. It had also said that its mentoring would be limited to leadership training of the faculty. The ministry was looking up to IIM-A to guide the new institute at Udaipur from the beginning but after discussions between the IIM-A and the ministry, the latter dropped the institute from the mentoring programme and appointed IIM-Indore in its place.

Two new IIMs have been set up at Udaipur and Kashipur (Uttarakhand). They are expected to start functioning this year and their directors will be appointed soon.

Professor N. Ravichandran, Director, IIM-Indore said that the institute will help IIM-Udaipur like it did for IIM-Ranchi.
