ICMR to fund for stem cell research

ICMR established in New Delhi, is the apex body for the formulation, coordination and promotion of biomedical research.


The Indian Council of Medical Research has decided to assist financially to institutions interested in the stem cell research and therapy from January 2012.
The director-general of ICMR- VM Katoch said, ''Each state will get three stem cell research centres every year approved by the ICMR at least for five years so that the maximum capacity of stem cell research is achieved at the state-level.''
Katoch emphasised on research in the areas like its application in stroke, heart attack and diabetes, corneal injury and skin burns.
