IIM-R gets land for permanent campus near Kanke

Foundation for an integrated campus of the institute on a 77-acre land laid in Nagari area in presence of police and administrative officials


Stage is now set for building an sprawling campus of the Indian Institute of Management, Ranchi,  (IIM-R), with the State government giving possession of 76.74 acre land in Nagari area of Kanke, situated about 20-km north-west from the State capital, to the newly established B-school.
Officer on Special Duty of the IIM-R Rajesh Emmanuel Patro said the district administration handed over the possession of land after measurement. “Foundation laying of the administrative building has been done. Now, we will construct the temporary boundary of the land,” he added.
Presently, IIM-R is functioning at Soochna Bhawan, a multi-storeyed building premises owned by the State Public Relations Department. Students are residing in another government building located nearby.
The State government was earlier planning to locate the institute in Khunti, the placed being considered for development of a knowledge hub. As the plan of knowledge hub got delayed, the officials proposed to shift the IIM-R campus to Khelgaon area. However, the officials of the Union Ministry of Human Resources Department, who visited Ranchi in April last year, identified Kanke area as the most suitable place for the new campus.
