India is likely to open the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campus in Qatar. Minister of state for external affairs (Gulf Region) and human resources development- E Ahamed hoped that Qatar authorities would accept the request of the Indian government to set up a campus in the near future.
Talking to reporters, Ahamed said IITs are world-class educational institutions which have produced some of the best minds in research and engineering. Students coming out of IITs work at vital positions all over the world including in the region.
The IITs are a group of autonomous engineering and technology-oriented institutes of higher education. The institutes are governed by the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961 which has declared them as “institutions of national importance”, and lays down their powers, duties, framework for governance etc.
