Authorities of ICFAI University has decided to shut down its Tripura campus for indefinite period following two-month long impasse between employees and management. The registrar of ICFAI- Snehalata Behura has issued a notification in this regard for closing down the academic and official activity for an indefinite period.

Actually, the stalemate between employees and management took an ugly turn when it  terminated 19 employees, including 12 faculty members early last month. According to reports, all these agitating employees were opposing alleged discrimination in wage structure. However, they had also tried to settle down the issue with authorities.

But, when they failed to get satisfactory response from authorities, they kicked off protest. The situation aggravated with the resignation of the vice chancellor of the university- Dr RK Patnaik and pro-vice chancellor JJ Kawle. Meanwhile, Chief minister Manik Sarkar also asked agitators to resume the normal functioning but all efforts failed to yield the result.

Tripura higher education department secretary - Kishore Ambuly said, “The state government took a strong note of the situation and asked the ICFAI authorities to resume normal class work and other official activities at the earliest to create a conducive working environment.”

Hyderabad-based ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education had established the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India (ICFAI) University of Tripura in 2004 with the approval of the University Grants Commission and the Ministry of Human Resource Development. As now, the ICFAI University has 180 teaching and non-teaching employees and nearly 1,100 students.
