ITM Group of Institutions Exempted from AICTE’s Notification
02 March 2011

The group shall inform the AICTE and DTE, Maharashtra, about how it will conduct admissions, within two weeks. These norms shall also be available on the website of the group

The Bombay High Court has granted permission to ITM Group of Institutions, to conduct its own common admission process (CAP), outside the CAP conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Maharashtra.

The group has been following a common admission process for management colleges in five different states and cannot give admission to any student on the basis of Maharashtra CET or through the process adopted by the Association of Management Colleges in the state. Therefore, it has been exempted from AICTE’s notification that prevents B-schools from conduting their own entrance tests, group discussions and personal interviews (GD/PI).

The group can now give admission on merit to its seats in PGDM courses to students who have appeared in any one or more of the national-level tests including CAT, MAT, XAT, ATMA and JMET. The students’ performance in GD/PI shall also be a criterion for admission.

"There is no stay of the AICTE notification - This will not apply to us only this year. Before next year, there will be a further hearing, and the "Rule" which is issued by Bombay HC will be converted into a binding judgement, which may be appealed by AICTE to the Supreme Court. Essentially, before SC gives a final order, ITM is protected," said P.V. Ramana, Chairman, ITM Group.

The group shall inform the AICTE and DTE, Maharashtra, about the manner in which it will conduct the admissions, within two weeks. These norms shall also be available on the website of the group.
