After XLRI, IIM Ranchi and BIT Mesra have hiked their course fee by 50 per cent from this academic session

Wannabe managers and engineers, be ready to pay more if you are planning to pursue your dream in Jharkhand.

After Jamshedpur-based business school, XLRI, two other top-notch institutes offering management and engineering, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) and Birla Institute of Technology (Mesra) have decided to jack up their course fee by up to 50 per cent this academic session.

As per the revised fee structure, IIM-Ranchi will now charge Rs 9 lakh from students enrolled in its two-year MBA course vis-à-vis Rs 6 lakh course fee till the last academic session. Each student will have to pay Rs 1.50 lakh per semester towards tuition fee, room rent, course material, library usage and computer charges against the earlier Rs 1 lakh.

Similarly, working professionals will have to pay Rs 4.50 lakh as course fee for the 18-month postgraduate executive programmes in management to be launched this year.

Toeing the b-schools’ line, BIT (Mesra) has also increased the fee of its undergraduate and postgraduate courses in engineering by 25 per cent.

Justifying the hike, Registrar of BIT (Mesra), Colonel (Retd.) RK Verma, said the institute was compelled to increase the fee structure in keeping with its obligation to abide by the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission for hiring quality teachers.

“BIT is still able to offer engineering courses to students at charges lower than other technical institutes,” claimed Verma.

XLRI Jamshedpur, has already announced a hike in the fee of its two-year postgraduate course in business management and human resource management from Rs 8.50 lakh to Rs 9.80 lakh.

Those aspiring to pursue the one-year general management programme will have to shell out Rs 13.70 lakh as against the earlier Rs 9.90 lakh as course fee.
