Jindal University Ties Up with Taiwan Varsity to Teach Chinese
26 July 2011

The National Tsing Hua University will teach two Mandarin courses at no cost to Indian students

The National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), Taiwan, will be launching its India centre on August 1 in New Delhi. The aim is to attract more Indian students to study in Taiwan.

Initially, the institute will teach two Mandarin courses for free to Indian students using traditional characters. There will be 20 students in each class. It will be operated by the NTHU in partnership with India’s O.P. Jindal Global Univeristy.

According to the agreement, NTHU will recruit teachers while Jindal University will provide other facilities and teaching materials. Taiwan’s Ministry of Education will provide subsidies to ensure that teacher salaries and course fees are covered.

According to reports, the NTHU is launching the course considering the increase in trade between Taiwan and India that has made Mandarin Chinese necessary.

Currently, about 400 Indian students are pursuing higher education in Taiwan’s universities. Eighty one of these are studying at NTHU and 27 are engaged in postdoctoral research.
