21 July 2011

The university will construct lifts, ramps and specially-designed washrooms for its 300 disabled students

Lucknow University will soon provide facilities for free movement of differently-abled students, an official said Wednesday.

"The provisions for assisting differently-abled students will be made at both the old and the new campuses. We have already identified 25 such spots," Superintendent of Work D.P. Tiwari said.

At present, there are over 300 disabled students in the university.

Lifts, ramps and specially-designed washrooms will be set up for them, he said.

"We intend to invest around Rs 3 crore in this. The facilities would be provided in a phased manner," he added.

Initially the facilities would come up at the Education Department, examination hall, Institute of Development Studies and the postgraduate block.

The LU has over 30,000 students enrolled in various graduate, postgraduate, diploma and certificate programmes.
