Around 1,200 teachers of Lucknow University went on a daylong strike to protest the delay of payment of their arrears. Teachers of its affiliated colleges also observed the day long protest. After holding demonstrations in the university campus, they marched to Raj Bhawan and hand over a memorandum to the Governor of Uttar Pradesh BL Joshi.
The president of Lucknow University Teachers' Association (LUTA), Anil Shukla said, "The government had assured them to provide the hiked salary scale to University teachers as per the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission. As the government continues to turn a blind eye to our long-pending demands, we have decided to boycott teaching.”
He adds, "We personally don't want to disturb the academic work, but we have no other option to protest in order to get ourselves heard." It may be mentioned here that the mid-term examinations of University will begin in the first week of December and strike at this point would surely affect studies in the campus.
