Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh announced that a centre for Malaviya studies will be set up at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU). Addressing a function to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahamana Madan Mohan Malaviya, Dr. Singh said a digital collection of Dr. Malaviya's writings would also be compiled for the first time.

The Prime Minister also informed the Government plans to establish chairs, scholarships and education related awards in his name. Dr. Singh said Malaviyaji wanted the youth of India to benefit from an integrated education that incorporated scientific knowledge, practical training and ethical studies.

Banaras Hindu University chancellor Dr Karan Singh said BHU was the first university set up by an Indian. He said that the university is imparting quality education to its students since its inception.
