IGIMS would be the first autonomous health institute in Bihar to run MBBS course

The Medical Council of India (MCI) has given nod to Patna-based Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) to start MBBS course from the current academic session. With 100 seats, it would be the first autonomous health institute in Bihar to start this course.

MCI’s letter to the institute says that permission would be renewed annually on verification of achievement of annual targets set in the project report of the institution. This process would continue till the establishment of the medical college and expansion of hospital facilities are completed as per the norms of the MCI.

A separate national level pre-medical test would be conducted soon as the MCI guidelines said that the admission process has to be completed by August 30.

Bihar has been facing acute shortage of doctors, both in teaching and in government hospitals. The government recently advertised the posts to fill up vacancies.
