13 January 2012

Around 1.85 lakh candidates appeared in the test over a 20-day testing window across 36 cities from mid October.

Nine MBA aspirants secured 100 percentile in the Common Admission Test (CAT) this year. The Indian Institutes of Management announced the results of CAT, 2011 on Wednesday. Around 1.85 lakh candidates appeared in the test over a 20-day testing window across 36 cities from mid October.
This year many of the new IIMs, including those in Tiruchirapalli, Udaipur and Raipur, have increased their intake from 70 to 120. This will improve the chances of many candidates to get into the prestigious IIMs. Several top scorers said that taking mock tests offered by coaching institutes helped them secure high percentiles in the exam.
CAT scores are accepted by the 13 IIMs and several others, including the management studies departments in the National Institutes of Technology and the Indian Institutes of Technology. The IITs made the decision to accept CAT scores instead of conducting a separate Joint Management Entrance Test this year.
Academic affairs secretary at IIT Madras Prashanth said that this year many of the students in the institute had secured top scores in the test, including Prabhu Dev and Saipramod Inguva who scored 99.99 percentiles.
