The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jalandhar is tying up with Germany-funded Bavarian-Indian Centre for Business and University Cooperation to introduce a joint degree M.Tech programme in mechanical, information technology and textile engineering disciplines from the next academic session.
NIT Director Prof Moin-ud-din said detailed discussions were held with centre chairman Dr Jurgen Lehmann and Managing Director Dr Daniel Wevner to formulate the
proposed MoU draft, which would be completed in two months.
The students will undertake the first year studies in India while they complete the second year of the course at HOF University of Applied Sciences in Germany. After the completion of course, a degree will be given jointly by the two universities.
“The students will also be allowed to undertake consultancy or other research projects to earn for supporting the studies in Germany. Besides, we are working on the
German University’s sponsorships or scholarships for bright students,”the NIT Director said.
Dr Lehmann, who is also president of HOF University of Applied Sciences, said the collaboration in textile and automobile engineering was also being deliberated upon.
“We are impressed with the NIT’s infrastructure and faculty and a joint research initiative on alternative energy resources is also being worked out,” Dr Lehmann emphasised.
The centre representatives showed a keen interest in building a long-term association with NIT for faculty and student exchange. The tie-up would initiate joint research projects, staff development, and faculty and student exchange.
