Students aspiring for career in teaching will have to go through a common admission test to get admission to Bachelor Education (BEd) colleges in Jharkhand.
The state government has contemplated the new admission procedure to do away with the chances of irregular admissions and bring uniformity in academic standards in all BEd colleges, including public and private institutes.
The state’s HRD department has asked the secondary education directorate to frame the rules for the test, which would be applicable to more than 60 BEd colleges.
Earlier, admission to these colleges was made on the basis of marks, which allowed the students to get through the process by furnishing even fake certificates for additional marks. This left enough scope for the authorities to tamper with the admission process.
All the five universities, which are the regulating bodies for BEd colleges operating under their jurisdiction, have been asked to put off the admission process until the new arrangement is brought in place.
HRD Secretary Mridula Sinha said that the new admission procedure was planned with to acknowledge the talents of students, check on donations in lieu of admission, regulate fee structures for the course and regularise the academic session in all BEd colleges.
Presently, 68 BEd colleges are operational in Jharkhand under the administrative control of different universities. Each of these colleges has 100 seats.
