Odisha to host 99th Indian Science Congress

The five-day Science Congress will bring together scientists, policy makers, children and youths and general public on one platform.


The 99th Indian Science Congress will be held in Bhubaneswar (Odisha) from  3-7 January, 2012. It is being organized by the Indian Science Congress Association, Kolkata, in association with the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) and Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University, Bhubaneswar.
The five-day Science Congress will bring together scientists, science administrators, policy makers, children and youths and general public on one platform. It will highlight the importance of scientific research to the center stage of public awareness. Science Congress will also promote interaction among scientists from various disciplines and institutions within the country and abroad.
The state minister for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences- Ashwani Kumar said that almost all major preparations for organising the Science Congress have been completed. The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has accepted to be the President Elect for the centenary year 2012-13 on invitation. Several Nobel Laureates have also been invited to attend the congress.
During five-day event, eminent scientists of India and abroad will deliver their plenary lectures. These lectures invariably provide broader international perspective and create awareness about the role of science in the society. One of the major attraction will be a science exhibition revealing the latest scientific development in the country.
Ashwani Kumar informs that the selection process of ISCA and young scientist awardees is now complete. Besides all this, representatives of various institutes and industries have been invited to participate in science exhibition and other activities. The title for presidential address will be 'Science And Technology for Inclusive Innovation- Role of Women'.
