The President Pratibha Devisingh Patil addressed the faculty and students of Visva-Bharati University at Shantiniketan


The President Pratibha Devisingh Patil visited Visva-Bharati University at Shantiniketan as a tribute to Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore on his 150th Birth Anniversary. On this occasion, she unveiled a series of his rare paintings and sculptures.
Paying tributes to Tagore, she said, "Gurudev emphasized the importance of building educational institutions, where high standards of learning would be maintained. He believed that education should aim to make individuals understand the world in which they live, and to be conscious of their moral and social responsibilities."
The President first addressed the faculty and students of Visva-Bharati at Udayan in Uttarayan complex and formally unveiled two sculptures, one by Ramachandran and another by Ramakrishnan, both very eminent alumni of Visva-Bharati. Later on, she inaugurated a rare exhibition of 38 paintings by Tagore at Nandan gallery.
Governor of West Bengal M.K.Narayanan, Chandranath Singh, Minister of Panchayat and Rural Development, Govt. of West Bengal, Devisingh Shekhawat, Visva-Bharati Vice Chancellor, Susanta Dutta Gupta, Pro-Vice Chancellor and many luminaries from cultural world of Bengal including Jogen Chowdhury among others attended the event.
