Punjabi University, Patiala, will soon have seven new colleges aimed at providing educational opportunities to the youth of Punjab’s backward areas.

The colleges are coming up after a survey by the Centre identified 374 districts across the country that lacked educational facilities and remained backward in terms of gross enrolment ratio of students when compared to the national ratio of enrolment.

“For Punjab alone, 13 such colleges have been approved. Punjabi University, Patiala, will run seven of these colleges and Panjab University, Chandigarh, and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, will make four and two colleges functional, respectively,” Punjabi University,  Dean (Colleges), Dr JA Khan said.

“The state government provided us land timely. The colleges have the required infrastructure. The university has already appointed principals and faculty members for these colleges. The first session will begin in the first week of August. These colleges will certainly be one of the best in terms of facilities and education,” Dr Khan added.
