The Chief Scientist of Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) Krishnan Ravi Kumar and senior principal scientist of Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) Utpal Bhadra have been selected for the Ranbaxy Research Award for the year 2010.
Dr. Krishnan is currently heading the crystallography group. He has got this award for his work in the area of pharmaceutical sciences around crystallography and polymorphism.
Dr. Krishnan has developed analytical methods using X-ray diffraction for several polymorphic substances sponsored by pharmaceutical companies. Besides this, he has co-authored over 385 crystallographic research publications in international journals. He was elected as an Associate member of AP Academy of Science in 2002. It may be noted that IICT bagged the award for the eighth time, five being in a row.
Another scientist Dr. Utpal Bhadra has been selected in recognition of his seminal research contributions on gene silencing and RNAi biogenesis and mechanisms. His findings are applicable in understanding the genetic make-up of humans, animals and plants and in finding treatments for diseases.
Dr Bhadra is engaged in the project of validation of identified models and development of new alternative models for evaluation of new drug entities of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research. Dr Bhadra has published more than 50 research articles.
