Students' Stir brings AMU’s Activities to a Standstill
23 March 2011

P.K. Abdul Aziz appealed to the students to unlock the university's central offices but the Union President disagreed

All important activities in the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), including admissions and examinations, came to a standstill on Tuesday due to the forced locking of the central offices by the students' union a day earlier.

Vice Chancellor P.K. Abdul Azis constituted a committee to talk to the students' union, but Union President A.A. Farooqui rejected the offer.

Farooqui said: "Instead of agreeing to our demand to remove the proctor from his present post because he has failed miserably, the vice chancellor is only further compounding the issue."

Azis appealed to the students' union to unlock the administrative block comprising the finance office, controller of examinations and admissions office and all other administrative offices of the university and the proctor's office so that students and stakeholders did not face inconvenience.

Azis also held a review meeting of deans, faculty and principals of colleges to take stock of the alarming situation and appointed a committee of deans and principals, who are members of the executive council, to interact with the office bearers of the students' union and others.
