Dattagupta was a professor at SN Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, Kolkata


Sushanta Dattagupta has been appointed the new vice chancellor of Visva Bharati University, a statement from the Human Resource Development Ministry said.

The university at Shanti Niketan, in West Bengal, was established by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore in 1921.

Dattagupta was a professor at SN Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, Kolkata. His research interests include Non-equilibrium Statistical Mechanics, Dissipative Quantum Systems, Non-equilibrium/Relaxation Phenomena, Nanomaterials, Fluctuation Spectroscopy and Quantum Optics.

He has been elected Fellow at the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore (1992); Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi (1994); the National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad (1995) and the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (1999). He has also authored a book named A Paradigm Called Magnetism.
