TISS Guwahati Gets Centre's Nod

TISS, a deemed-to-be-University, had submitted a proposal in December 2009 seeking permission for establishment of an off campus


 

The Ministry of Human Resource and Development has allowed Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS)- Mumbai to start its off campus center at Guwahati (Assam) from academic year 2011-12. It will be a constituent teaching unit under the ambit of TISS- Mumbai.
TISS, a deemed-to-be-University, has submitted a proposal in December 2009 seeking permission for establishment of an off campus center in Guwahati under its ambit. Now, the ministry on the recommendation of UGC (University Grant Commission) has granted the permission to TISS for the same.
It may be mentioned her that TISS was established in 1936, as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. This is the first school of social work in the country. In 1944 the school was renamed to its current name. It was recognized as a Deemed University in 1964.
