Utkal University to confer doctorate on Pt Jasraj

Murlidhar Bhandare will present the doctorate to the Mewati Gharana maestro.


Odisha based Utkal University will confer a doctorate degree on Vocalist Pandit Jasraj for his outstanding contribution to Indian classical music. The Governor of Odisha and Chancellor of University Murlidhar Bhandare will present the doctorate to the Mewati Gharana maestro.
As the 82-year-old musician is on a vacation at the South Pole, his daughter Durga Jasraj will collect the doctorate on his behalf. He is the recipient of several titles and awards such as the Padma Vibhusahn (art-classical music-vocal) in 2000. He was also felicitated with Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1987.
The Utkal University, established in the year 1943, is the seventeenth oldest University in the country. There are at present twenty-seven Post-Graduate Departments located in the University Campus for Post-Graduate studies and research in various disciplines of Science, Humanities, Business Administration, Social Science, Law and Commerce.
