VC of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University suspended

SGPC General Secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhaur informed that "SGPC President and Chancellor of the university Avtar Singh Makkar has suspended Dr Ahluwalia on charge of committing various irregularities and charge sheet would be served to him soon".


 

 

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has suspended Vice-Chancellor of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib- Dr Jasbir Singh Ahluwalia on charges of irregularities.
SGPC General Secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhaur informed that "SGPC President and Chancellor of the university Avtar Singh Makkar has suspended Dr Ahluwalia on charge of committing various irregularities and charge sheet would be served to him soon ".
He said that the decision of suspension was taken on the recommendation of a fact finding inquiry, initiated by the university unit to look into various complaints of irregularities against Ahluwalia. SGPC authorities have also ordered a detailed inquiry on charges against Ahluwalia, Bhaur said.
Meanwhile Registrar, Pritpal Singh, has been appointed as the officiating VC of the university and Sukhdev Singh Bhaur has been appointed as Member Secretary of the university trust.
Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University is a private university located in Fatehgarh Sahib of Punjab. It was established under Punjab State Act 20/2008 (Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University Act). Though Jasbir Singh Ahluwalia was appointed the first Vice-Chancellor of the university in 2008, he was shot and critically injured only few days after inauguration of the university. Gurnek Singh, former head of the Department of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Studies, Punjabi University was appointed acting Vice-Chancellor of the university on 9 August 2011.
