We Need Competitive and Employable Human Capital: Sibal
05 July 2011

The government of Andhra Pradesh aims at imparting skill development training to 15 lakh students in the next three years

At the inaugural ceremony of IMT’s Hyderabad campus, Kapil Sibal, Minister of Human Resource Development, stressed the need for quality management education in India. He also said that very little importance is attributed to it in our country.

He said that he was sure IMT would deliver excellent quality management education.

He quoted the Prime Minister saying that Indian infrastructure development requires US$ 1 trillion. Therefore, we also need more engineering and more management graduates, he added.

“Business education is not static, it is dynamic. In Indian education system, we put a lot of limitations on our children, which is actually the greatest limitation in our education system and we should get rid of it,” said he.

He also urged the faculty to impart right management education to the students. “You can't offer today's management graduates yesterday's management systems,” he said.

Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, said, "Five years back, we had 1,40,000 engineering graduates graduating from these colleges. Today, we today produce five lakh engineers annually. We don't need mere engineers and management graduates. We need competitive and employable human capital and reminded that US President Obama had told his countrymen to be careful of Indian talent. The state government would like to impart skill development training to 15 lakh students in the next three years."

Dear Mr. Sibal, You are talking of human capital, and to improve it, the focus is on engineering graduates. The engineering people, needless to say, can build an India which is visible to the naked eye. But, dear Minister Sahib, there is an India which has broken beyond repair and beyond recognition. That is the invisible India, its value system, its humanities. When entire emphasis is placed on engineering and computers, you and your followers tend to ignore the prophetic words of Oliver Goldsmith who had said: ILL BODES THE LAND, TO HASTENING ILLS A PREY WHERE WEALTH ACCUMULATES, AND MEN DECAY. Dear Sibal Sahib, MEN of your country are DECAYING. And they donot need Engineering degrees or medical or computer engg. They need HUMAN ENGINEERING, THEY NEED HUMAN VALUES. HAVE YOU EVER SPARED A THOUGHT FOR THE FALLING STOCK OF DEGREE COLLEGES> is it enough to open more an more colleges> WHO WILL IMPART THEM QUALITY? who will impart VALUE TO SUBJECTS WHICH MAKE MEN HUMAN? your emphasis is LOPSIDED. ENGINEERING, SCIENCE, COMPUTER ... ARE FIELDS WHICH ARE DEVELOPING, BUT WE CANNOT IGNORE THE BASIC REALITY OF HUMAN EXISTENCE; literature, philsophy, psychology, civics etc. WILL YOU STOP FOR A WHIE AND SPARE A THOUGH FOR THOSE: ANDHERE MEIN JO BAITHE HAIN, NAZAR UN PAR BHI KUCHH DALO ARE O ROSHNI WALO..
