Joint Action Council office-bearers also made a statement on Wednesday, stating that the bill was sent to the President for approval after the Bill was moved in the Assembly on April 16. the State government has been informed about the Presidents approval and will notify the public in its its gazette. The bill will free the university from the influence of the family of founder Rajah Sir Annamanali Chettiar.

Teaching and non-teaching staff of the university welcomed the news, gathering in large numbers on the university premises. They exulted in the decision and distributed sweets and burst crackers.

Mr. Mathiyalagan informed the present media that this was a move that had been desired since 1981.
